A note from the editor

I love trees, always have. As a young boy I’d spend hours enjoying the freedom and adventure of climbing the tree at the bottom of my Nain’s garden in Aberystwyth. These days, social etiquette (and some dodgy knees) dictate that I can’t follow that avenue of fun, but the fascination with trees continues. You can’t live in Wales and not notice these ancient giants all around us – they belong here.

There is magnificence in their stability and stickability, joining the earth with the sky. Deep roots and leaves of deeper green radiating life itself. One small seed, given the right conditions, can grow into the most magnificent and great tree. There’s a connection between trees and us – we’re not so different. Don’t we also develop and grow? We also want lives that are fruitful, and to do that we also need to set down deep roots and draw energy from something.

I read something beautiful recently. They were ancient words, written in another country to a different culture and time, but they continue to ring true today.

They describe a blessed person as one who “… is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Is this not a description of what we’re all looking for? A life of fruitfulness and great happiness - a calm life that can handle the heat of difficult experiences and can thrive in even the driest of lands? I meet so many who are looking for that source, that will keep them through everything and provide strength and stability. They’ve been let down by others, by their circumstances and by themselves.

Where can it be found?

On this website you’ll read about many different people who claim to have found something different. Like trees, they sent out their roots and found real water that continues to satisfy and has allowed them to flourish and change. They found this in a person. Some were seeking him, whilst others found him without looking – or I should say – he found them.

I pray that you’ll find this website both helpful and thought-provoking. As Christians we don’t claim to have all the answers, but we do have a story to tell and more importantly we have a person to introduce to you.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

- From the book of Jeremiah, written roughly 2600 years ago.
